Sources: Graham Potter could take over Euro giants one year after Chelsea sacking

Former Brighton and Hove Albion manager Graham Potter is now a candidate to take over at German giants Borussia Dortmund a year on from his sacking by Premier League giants Chelsea.

EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey

HITC Football understands that the 48-year-old, who has been out of work for the last 12 months, has turned down a number of opportunities as he remains on the lookout for the right job at the right time.

Whether he considers Borussia Dortmund to be exactly that remains to be seen. But HITC understands that Graham Potter is keen to kick-start his managerial career, Dortmund having installed the Englishman amongst a number of potential Edin Terzic replacements

Graham Potter has not worked since Chelsea sacking

Terzic, a boyhood Dortmund fan and a popular presence amongst the ‘Yellow Wall’, has seen his future come into question with increasing regularity in recent months. Despite an impressive run in the Champions League – BVB have a quarter-final clash with Atletico Madrid to look forward to – their domestic form has left a lot to be desired.

Dortmund are a staggering 20 points adrift of Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen. While fourth as things stand, they could yet miss out on a place in next season’s Champions League too. RB Leipzig are breathing down their neck.

HITC have been informed that one-time Tottenham target Arne Slot – who guided Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title in 2023 – is another potential Terzic replacement. Ditto Franck Haise, the man who took Lens from the second-tier of French football and made them the ‘best of the rest’ behind Paris Saint-Germain.

Borussia Dortmund considering a new manager

Potter, however, may be intrigued by such an opportunity at one of Europe’s best-supported and most historic institutions. Dortmund pride themselves upon their development of young players and upon a fast-paced, attractive style of football.

Potter, if his work at Swansea and Brighton is anything to go by, should tick more boxes than most at a club who came within 90 minutes away from lifting the Bundesliga title a year ago, collapsing on the final day as Bayern snatched the trophy from under Terzic’s nose.

Potter’s former employers Chelsea, meanwhile, are in the midst of another highly-disappointing season under Mauricio Pochettino, albeit with an FA Cup final still within their sights. Chelsea are planning to sign a top-class number nine in the summer.

HITC knows that Napoli talisman Victor Osimhen is the number one target. There is also interest in Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez.
