Bolton Wanderers midfielder’s move to Hull City put on hold

Bolton Wanderers midfielder Josh Vela’s proposed move to Hull City has been put on hold.

The 25-year-old will have to wait to see if a switch to the KCOM Stadium is still on the cards, as per a report by Hull Live.

Vela was poised to join Hull under Nigel Adkins. However, since the ex-Scunthorpe United and Southampton boss has left the club it has scuppered his chances of a move to East Yorkshire. Michael Appleton is the favourite to take over.

Vela, who is from Salford, is leaving Bolton on a free transfer this summer when his contract expires. He has been with the Trotters since 2002.

He rose up through the youth ranks of the North-West side and has gone onto play 182 times for them, chipping in with 13 goals. He also made three appearances in the Premier League.

The midfielder played 19 times last season in the Championship as Bolton were relegated to League One under Phil Parkinson.

He announced he was leaving last month: “It’s hard for me to leave the club that I have been at for 17 years, but the time has come for a new challenge for me and my family. This season hasn’t gone to plan but I’m sure the club will get back to where it belongs, I’ve enjoyed the ups and downs – a lot more ups.”
