Aston Villa set to bid £15m for star Championship striker

Aston Villa are set to make a fresh bid of £15m for Brentford striker Neal Maupay, according to the Football Insider.

The report states that Villa have already had a bid rejected for the 22-year old, but are ready to offer an improved offer in order to land one of their key targets.

Maupay found the net on 25 occasions last season in the Championship and manager Dean Smith is keen to reunite with the Frenchman, who has already been linked with a move to Spanish giants Sevilla.

Smith is in the market for attacking reinforcements as he looks to fill the void left by Tammy Abraham, who has returned to parent club Chelsea following the completion of his season long loan deal.

Abraham fired in 26 goals for the West Midlands side last season, helping the club achieve promotion to the Premier League following a three-year absence.

Villa have already moved quickly to secure the signature of a new striker with Brazilian forward Wesley Moraes making the move to Villa Park from Belgian side Club Brugge for an estimated fee of £20m.

As also reported by the72, the Villans have also been linked with a move for Southampton striker Charlie Austin, as Smith looks to add some strength in depth ahead of the new season.

Maupay, who has represented France at numerous different youth levels, spent time at Nice, Saint Ettiene and Brest before making the move to Griffin Park.

Since his arrival in West London, he has proven himself as a top Championship striker and a reunion with former boss Smith in the Premier League could help progress his career even further.
