Dobra: My Goal is to Play With Town's First Team
Saturday, 29th May 2021 12:31

Blues forward Armando Dobra, who is currently away with Albania’s U21s, says playing for Town’s first team remains his goal.

Dobra joined up with the Albanian U21s earlier this week ahead of their opening European Championships qualifier in Andorra on Friday and then a friendly in Bulgaria four days later.

The 20-year-old says he and his Albania U21 team-mates are aiming to finish in the top two in their group, despite facing tough opposition including England. The Czech Republic, Slovenia and Kosovo complete the group.

“The team is strong, some new players have arrived as some of them have gone to [the senior squad]. They are very good players, we have a strong team,” he told the Albanian FA website.

“I hope to come out on top, but England is a very strong team, but our objective is to come out first or second in the group.”

The London-born attacker, who has previously won three U21 caps, says the players who have been with squads before can help the new call-ups settle in.

“We have been with the national team for previous games and we have a little more experience than other players and we can help new players who have come to get to know each other and bring them in the group and tell them that just as we fight for the team, so will you.”

Like most of the Town squad, Dobra has been told he can find another club this summer, however, the academy product added that his aim for the future is still to be involved with Town’s senior side: “My goal is to play with the first team in Ipswich.”

Dobra made 10 starts and nine sub appearances for the Blues in 2020/21, scoring one Papa John’s Trophy goal.

The winger or number 10 was a target of Brighton in January 2020, while other clubs at home and abroad, including Southampton, Dinamo Zagreb, Atalanta and Dynamo Kyiv, have subsequently shown interest.

With a good pre season behind him which should make him fitter and stronger under the new fitness regime , it should be an exciting season for him.

Well done him
So far the only one to come out and say he will fight for his place

Prove Cookie monster wrong as I think telling you to find another club was beyond belief. If another team comes in for this young man could prove a big mistake for PC.

Good , hopefully this means he's staying with us .

My worry is he'll be thrown out like woolfenden, Dozzell, Bishop, Lankester et al…. As Cook tries to justify why we were relegation material under him and not top six. Ego's are a pain in the backside with a manager if they are lower league suited only. We need higher cellings and that includes as a manager. Cook is great at taking high budget teams up in the lower leagues but can't see beyond that. Some of his player decisions have been terrible, most of the teams performances under him make lambert look like Pep and lambert was very average.

Essexipswichboy. From all reports this wasn't some kind of motivation technique from Cook. He wants them all gone. I think cook's man management is horrific.

Dobra is a good little player and has time to grow, I think if PC does get rid of him it will be a big mistake and I hope it comes back to bite him HARD. As for the pre-season matches doesn't he want to test the players as well as giving them time to gel, anyway as for PC with myself the juries out for the moment even though reading some of the post some fans want him out already.

I liked the look of Dobra, seemed one of the players who would run at a defence, would like to see him stay.

Not all of the Ipswich team are rubbish with the right coaching we could have a few stars in our team.

If Cook does manage to sell the whole of the first team he will be very lucky to replace them with 18 or so players that are far better than we have.

I can see 10 new faces coming in but how much better we will be time will tell

Can't see Dobra going anywhere but every player has his price and Cook knows this. So i wouldn't take too much in what Cook says to seriously. Cook was the one who gave Dobra a decent run in the first team. The attitude of the players has been appalling in the last two or three seasons so im backing Cook all the way.

Linkboy13… is 13 your age? I can only assume it is given how Naive you comments are. Dobra is indeed a good player with lots of potential. You need to wonder firstly why cook has managed to p155 off pretty much the entire 1st team squad. You have the idiots option, that all of those players have exactly the same personality and lack of desire. Statistically and based on facts that's not true. Or he's been an absolute lunatic and not objective. Telling a player he's not in your plans absolutely smashes any value they may have given any club knows you've done this when enquiring. Secondly players under 21 are not counted to the wage cap so any money coming in doesn't go to help that situation. Getting rid of any of those like him or Lankester might suggest Cook doesn't understand the regulations…. And don't tell me you think he does assume he does because given your comment you clearly don't so your opinion carries little weight.

Monkey, who out of our current squad would you say have performed well under Hurst, Lambert or Cook? Wholesale change is needed. There will be a few left no doubt, but only because there will be no other club coming in for them!

SaxonBlue74 I'm no not huge fan of lambert and think hurst was a big mistake and said that on here before it proved to be true. All I can say is I see talented players who of the three cook has got the least out of. To chuck out Dobra to sign a journeyman? That's shorterrmism. We are going to be signing no one better than a good league one player or championship reject. Ok, there could be some talented unproven youngsters….. but we have those. I'd keep most we have and some we've let go including hiring chambers as player coach rather than Wigan's kitman.

I know the inside opinion on why cook messed chambers around…. And it was insecurity and jealousy.

Yep. Have to say letting Dobra go would be a huge mistake. He has and still is showing passion and commitment. I just hope this is pure psychology from PC and nothing else. I find it odd that it appears (if what we are told is true), we are trying to retain Gwion (which is the right thing to do btw) but no-one else at all (which isn't). I suspect and hope the reality is PC is throwing down the gauntlet to all the still in contract players to justify their places. We await to see if PC is a surgeon or a butcher.

Deffinatey one to keep imo, has skill, determination and he should get better with time, i would get him on board asap personally .Cant see how Cook will get rid of all the players, replace them ,get them to gel and hit the ground running.

MonkeyBlue - what does it matter even if Linkboy13 is 13 yrs old? He's still a fan and entitled to his opinion. I actually agree with him so does that make me 13 as well?

Normal moronic comments from Monkey blue backed up by his negative marks.

I think the club is rotten from top to bottom and clearing out 13 or 14 years of dross is a big job. I am backing cook to get the job done. COYB.

Monkey_Blue, Chambers had is opportunity as a leader of this club and failed where it counts - results. So I have no problem with another leader coming in and moving him on, however he chose to do it.

In a couple of years he could be the first player on the team sheet every match if he keeps his head and works hard. Hope we can keep him, he's got great talent but hasn't had the opportunity to really show it yet.

The odd comments from some posters about "an inside track" frankly beggars belief, even if true that they have a mate/contact working for ITFC, it is still only someones opinion.
It is also quite potentially a jaundiced view given by someone who is not happy with their current employers, what it absolutely isn't, is a fact.

Monkey blue. Chambers as coach? In what tiny way is he qualifies? A good bloke?

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. However if it ignores reality, it's not an opinion of
Much value. We might bring in 12 players and there is no certainty they will be better than what we had and in fact they could be worse. It could also take a long time to create a team out of them. Would I have kept the squad intact? No, I would have got rid of Jackson, Norwood and possibly one of chambers and skuse although I'd have offered the other one a first team coach role rather than Wigan's kitman or someone who sends threatenting text messages and refuses road side breath tests.
Given we have a wage cap and money from sales would expand that, what I wouldn't do is let every players agent know their player isn't wanted and have their values slashed, I wouldn't have openly slagged all the players off in public when we still had a chance of the play-offs.

I'd love to say I agree with Cook as I was optimistic about his appointment. My opinion is based on evidence and facts of performances, results, what he's said and how he's behaved.
